6 THINGS WITH RILEY DE ENCIO

6 Things with Riley de Encio Founder of Curated Casita

Based in Orange County, Riley is the founder of Curated Casita. Curated Casita began as a passion project and quickly grew into something much bigger. Riley is the dreamer and artist behind these clay pieces. You can find her at her in-home studio located in Huntington Beach. Riley is a perfectionist whose chosen medium is to find beauty in imperfection. Nothing is certain in ceramics, nor is anything certain in life, but she chose this unknown path to bring to you pieces with intention and functionality.

1. What started it all for you?

Since I was a little girl, I have always had a passion for fashion and a creative driven mind. I always knew I wanted to be my own boss, but wasn’t exactly sure as to what capacity that would be until now. Rewind to when the pandemic first hit, I was out of a job and quite frankly - bored. This brief pause in my life, forced me to get creative and jump outside of my comfort zone and begin a new journey of life, and thus Curated Casita was born! It began as a passion project, sourcing vintage housewares and clothing, and now I continue to hunt for vintage gems as well as hand make my own line of ceramic vessels. Curated Casita has given me a space to express myself through art and fashion, two things that have shaped me into who I am today, and to be able to share that with the world is so special.

2. What drives your creative spark?

The people I have in my life are constantly inspiring and motivating me. Whether that be my closest friends and family, or the amazing women that I’ve had the opportunity to get to know through Curated Casita. Surrounding myself with like-minded, passionate individuals has allowed myself to grow on a business level as well as personal. I cannot emphasize enough how important it is to feel that love and support from your peers.

3. Most treasured home decor item?

My Henri Matisse Blue Nudes art piece. I found this beauty at an estate sale and immediately had to snag it. To me this piece symbolizes my love for art and thrift and it was the perfect addition to mine and my boyfriend’s little home together.

4. What’s the best advice you've ever received?

To not care what others think. This is something that always hung over my head when it came to making any decision in life. I always feared rejection and the judgment of others, but as soon as I put myself first and stopped caring about other peoples’ opinions of me, was when I finally started to live the life I had always wanted. It allowed me to chase my dreams, and now I’m pursuing the career path I always wanted. No dream is too big, and the only opinion that matters when it comes to your dreams is your own!

5. It's 5 o'clock at home. What would you be pouring?

Always a glass of wine. My current favorite for the summer is a natural skin contact wine by De Levende called Cortez. It’s so light and refreshing, perfect for these hot days we’ve been having.
