6 THINGS WITH CAMERON BUSCH

6 Things with Cameron Busch Founder of Hello Homebody

Founded by Maker Cameron Busch, a Minnesota native and self-taught ceramist living in NYC. She is the ultimate homebody, with a vast love for design and all things home. Clay is her favorite medium; she feels as though the ability to turn a lump of clay into a piece of functional homeware with texture and movement is truly magical. She aims to highlight the beauty of natural material, and self-taught technique. Pottery is her newest learned medium, and furthermore, her therapy + relaxation. Neutral tones, organic shapes, and subtle textures are important aspects in each of her pieces. Amongst throwing pottery, she also works with cement. Cement displays a raw, natural look, which is her preferred appearance. You can find everything from ceramic and cement home goods to hand poured candles and apothecary in her shop. Her hopes are to bring you unique, one-of-a-kind pieces that make your home feel extra special.

1. What started it all for you?

I’ve always been a creative at heart, and I’ve always had an eye for design; fashion and interior specifically. It wasn’t until the pandemic that I really dabbled into my creative side. I never even dreamed of owning my own business, but as soon as I had hours on end of nothing to do, I started creating and working with my hands. I was creating things I never even knew I was capable of. I was consistently learning new mediums and art forms; acrylic painting, watercolor, resin, macramé, cement, and last but not least, my favorite (and newest learned medium) clay. Everything made sense when I started learning pottery! It is definitely my form of relaxation, as it requires you to be fully present, especially when throwing on the wheel. I often like to think of centering myself when I’m centering my ball of clay. I can’t wait to continue sharing my work and bringing new ceramics to my shop!

2. What drives your creative spark?

Conversation pieces and human connection. The fact that something that came from my hands has the ability to spark a conversation, and really add a unique touch to someone else’s space gives me so much motivation to keep creating.

3. Most treasured home decor item?

Would probably have to be my ginormous banana leaf plant! My plant is about 8 feet tall and brings so much life to my apartment!

4. What’s the best advice you've ever received?

To trust and enjoy the process. I’m definitely someone who wants everything to be perfect right off the bat, and sometimes I catch myself comparing my journey to other people who to me, look like they have everything “figured out.” Everyone has their own process, and I’m learning that the process is the fun part of being a creative. If we all had things completely figured out, and everything worked out perfectly right off the bat, there wouldn’t be much room for growth and improvement, which I believe is something that everybody needs in order to truly believe in themselves and continue becoming inspired.

5. It's 5 o'clock at home. What would you be pouring?

Either a hard cider or a cocktail! I’m a sucker for a good old fashion whiskey ginger!

6. What are your favorite 6 accounts that you follow for inspiration?
