6 Things with Aisha Ross Founder of LESS IS MORE
Based in Los Angeles, Aisha is the vision behind Less Is More, a beautifully curated collection of vintage clothing and in-house collection of cut and sew pieces. Each piece is hand picked with a goal of bringing awareness to sustainable fashion. Aisha has always been a huge supporter of small businesses and in honor of AAPI Heritage Month she's curated a special edit of businesses to support.
1. What started it all for you?
When I was young if you asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up I would say a fashion designer. Not much has changed since then. I went to school for fashion merchandising and design in Hawaii and worked in retail throughout college. After college I worked for an apparel manufacturer doing production, which led me to starting Less Is More during the pandemic. Selling vintage is something I always wanted to do, but never felt like I had the time. My parents introduced me to thrift stores at a very young age, which at the time I wanted all the name brands like my peers, but now I am so grateful they did. I always would find so much joy in finding something special while thrifting or at a flea market and still do. It's like a treasure hunt. I am currently working on designing a small cut and sew collection for Less Is More. I cannot wait for the day to share those designs with the world. Little 5 year old Aisha would be so proud.
2. What drives your creative spark?
I have such a supportive group of women in my life that I am constantly amazed and inspired by. They definitely keep me feeling motivated and hold me accountable. I think just wanting to always be financially independent and never having to rely on anyone else also keeps me going. I really do love my job so much and I cannot stress how important that is.
3. Most treasured home decor item?
My grandpa's cigar box. It is made of wood and has his initials engraved on the top. I use it to store my all my incense since I don't smoke cigars, but it always reminds me of him when I open it. I also love anything handmade and the craftsmanship of this box is beautiful.
4. What’s the best advice you've ever received?
This is going to sound really cheesy, but truly manifest it and believe in yourself. Tell all your loved ones something you dream of and your short-term and long-term goals so they can hold you accountable. I also think the more people that didn't think I could start my own business, let alone in the height of the pandemic, just made me want to prove them wrong.
5. It's 5 o'clock at home. What would you be pouring?
I've really been into the Kin Euphoric drinks lately. Makes you feel nice and relaxed after a long day. If you haven't heard of these, they're an adaptogenic drink that is non-alcoholic, but still makes you feel that slight buzz. I love them!
6. What are your favorite 6 accounts that you follow for inspiration?
@bohemegoods- Sarah started with vintage and now has a wonderful in house line. She is goals and is such a boss!
@jordanrisa- Gorgeous human inside & out. I always look to her for good reads and fashion. She does it all I swear!
@palosantostudios- Stunning photography and creative showroom. Not to mention they started an amazing in house line.
@figandoak- Impeccable vintage furniture showroom. Sam is so talented and has such a great eye for interiors. She also takes all of of her photos on film, which I love.
@momivintage- Curated vintage home goods, you will want it all! She also made her own version of this vintage checkered cutting board that is insanely good.
